Hi friends, Spring has sprung and the Springboks have claimed yet another World Cup win. Well done Bokke! We had an awesome sleepover at the Cape Town Science Centre earlier this month and the feedback has been very positive. Yes, we are planning another sleepover at the science centre and we will keep you posted about dates for it closer to the time. For World Space Week, the incomparable Jim Adams, the former Deputy Chief Technologist of NASA, was in Cape Town and not only did he present to various groups, he even attended our Sleepover! This past week I returned from Ireland after presenting classes and running events for the 2023 Maths Week Ireland. What a wonderful opportunity to connect with so many incredible international presenters and of course it is always a joy to be charmed by the Irish hospitality. Our 2023 Living Maths Olympiad is currently taking place. The results will need to be in at the end of November. If your school is not taking part then take a look below to learn how you can participate. We had a wonderful Quiz evening at Micklefield and several Bingo events over the past month. We are very excited to announce that the 5th cycle of online classes will be commencing on Wednesday the 1st of November. See the section on online classes below. Online INTERVIEWS - We have some awesome interviews we are lining up. Schools from around the world will be invited to join in live and students get to ask questions too! * On the 6th of November I will be interviewing Kirsten Neuschafer, the winner of the 2022 Golden Globe Race. This is an incredible accomplishment. 1. It's a non-stop race. 2. No modern technology like GPS is permitted. 3. Your boat has to be a certain size and 4. It has to be an old boat. Kristen managed to take the win and even rescued a colleague along the way. We will be hosting the event LIVE and in person in Cape Town but it will be streamed live too. We will post updates on livingmaths.com Living Maths Olympiad 2023 We are currently running our annual Living Maths Olympiad. Students from Grade R (Kindergarten) to grade 9 can take part. We are expecting around 185 000 students participating. This might appeal to home schoolers and teachers that would like to reduce their marking.
