Humphrey "Hoppy" Price is Chief Engineer of NASA's robotic Mars Exploration
Program. He was the architect of the JPL minimal architecture for humans to
Mars. Hoppy was the Project System Engineer for the GRAIL mission to map the
gravity field of the Moon and was the Configuration Engineer for the Cassini
Saturn orbiter mission. He was the Flight System Engineer for the
Prometheus/JIMO Phase A project and was supervisor of the systems
engineering group for Entry, Descent, and Landing on the Mars Exploration
Rovers project. He has led and participated in many formulation studies of
spacecraft and advanced propulsion systems including Mars Sample Return,
interstellar missions, solar sails, and fusion rockets. Hoppy has B.S. in
Engineering Science and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering degrees from the
University of Texas at Austin.

If you have watched the Netflix series Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission To
Space then you will know about Dr Proctor and  her journey to being an
astronaut. Dr. Proctor is a geoscientist, explorer, space artist, and
astronaut. She is the mission pilot for the Inspiration4 all-civilian
orbital mission to space. She is also one of The Explorer's Club 50: Fifty
People Changing the World. Her motto is called Space2inspire where she
encourages people to use their unique, one-of-a-kind strengths, and passion
to inspire those within their reach and beyond. She believes that we need to
actively strive for a J.E.D.I. space: a just, equitable, diverse, and
inclusive space as we advance human spaceflight. Dr Proctor is one of only 2
black women to fly to space in the last 13 yrs and she is the 1st black
woman mission pilot.

LIVING MATHS SPACE TOUR 2023

3 Cape Town venues and 2 Joburg Venues confirmed

After the sold out events with Prof Arthur Benjamin the Mathemagician and
Janet Ivey from Janet's Planet in March, we are delighted to announce that
for the Living Maths Space Tour of 2023 we have retired NASA Astronaut,
Nicole Stott arriving in South Africa in May.  This will be a high profile
event and will be on most radio and TV stations as well as in the newspapers
and on Social Media.  We are just giving you a heads up the three Cape Town
venues and the 2 Gauteng venues are now live on Livingmaths.com and you will
be able to get tickets before the hype.  We have shifted the presentation a
little earlier so that the junior space fans can enjoy the show.  There will
be a few prizes for best dressed Space-themed. Bring your cellphone with as
there will be a fun Kahoot quiz at the end and the top three participants
will each win a cool prize. You can book tickets here:

Nicole Stott is an Astronaut, an Author, an Artist and an Aquanaut.  She is
flown to space twice and she has done a space walk.  She is excited about
coming out to South Africa!

ONLINE CLASSES

Our Second online Cycle will be starting up for students from K-9: Please
note that the classes will take place on Thursdays and NOT Wednesdays.  Due
to an increase in our online activities for schools around the world, we
have made this Cycle only 4 weeks long.  We will commence Cycle 2 Thursday
13 April and it will come to an end on Thursday 4 May 2023. This will only
be a 4-week cycle. For more information go to livingmaths.com Online
