Maths and Educational goodies for all ages

Hi everyone,

I am back from my travels in Ireland.  I wanted to just remind those of you
that would like to sign up for our online classes, they will be starting up
this week and will continue for 6 weeks.  The 2022 Living Maths Olympiad is
now in full swing.  See info below.  We are also getting close to the end of
the year.  If you are looking for end of year events, BINGO, General
Knowledge Quizzes, Edutainment or something that dream up then see the
details on how to book.  The next Cybermail will have updates about what we
have going on and events coming up.

Please note that our website has been experiencing some technical issues -
we are currently working on this.  Please email me if there is anything that
you require from the site.

If we have any students that have read The Magic Tree House Series by Mary
Pope Osborne, I am looking for 2 children to feature in a Microsoft Flip
event, potentially with the author.  We will need a Landscape Video Clip of
you introducing yourself, where you are from and then a quick line about
what you love about the books or your favourite character.  Please Email me
the video clip and I will let the Microsoft team select the one(s) they want
and I will then get back to you to sign the media release should it be
selected. We would need your video in by tomorrow.

Living Maths Olympiad 2022 for Grade R (K) to 9

The 2022 Maths Olympiad has started on 25 October 2022.  If your school is
interested in taking part then please
https://www.livingmaths.com/?page_id=245 visit our Olympiad page for more
details. This is an Olympiad that has been running since 2000 and it caters
for students from grade R (kindergarten) to grade 9.  It is open to all
levels but it does have bonus questions to cater for the top students.
Certificates are available for the top three individuals and pairs in the
country and the world.  With over 180 000 students taking part from all over
the world, you can be assured that this is a well-run and internationally
recognized event.  Homeschools are most welcome to take part too. If your
school is interested to learn more then email me and I will send you more
information.

Online Classes for children from Grade R (Kindergarten) to Grade 8 - Join in
on the fun! New cycle starting in the first week of November!

Cycle 5 2022  (6 weeks) will be starting up the week of Wednesday the 2nd
and 3rd Nov 2022 and will come to an end the week of 7th and 8th November
2022.  Note we have some time changes for the younger grades

Online classes are a wonderful and safe way to take part in your favourite
extramural without leaving the comfort of your home.  Judging by the number
of students that are returning each cycle, this is a strong indicator that
they are enjoying and benefiting from the weekly classes.  If you would like
to sign up for the classes, do not waste any time.  If you snooze you lose.

Loving Maths classes are for students from Grade R(K) up to grade 3.  They
are 30 mins long and they are story based.  There will be a weekly episode
where the students will need to assist the hero/heroine solve a problem.
The lesson often ends with a fun maths related game.  Students are
introduced to problem solving and critical thinking in a fun environment.

Living Maths classes are aimed at students from Grade 4-8.  They are 1 hour
long, and each lesson is independent of the others.  We spend time working
through fun brainteasers, problems, games that involve strategy and this
often leads to fruitful and thought-provoking discussions.  It is not for
marks, and we always examine the solutions so that the students can see the
various techniques and methods of approaching the problems.

The Presenter

The classes are presented by Mr S.  I have been running Living Maths for the
past 26 years and was recently awarded the Global Teacher Award of 2020 out
of a pool of teachers from 110 countries.  I work with a few hundred
teachers around the world and I am both a Microsoft Innovator Educator
Expert as well as 1 of only 2 Global Learning Mentors in South Africa
(previously known as Skype Master Teachers).  I teach a few thousand
students every week from K- grade 12, I run monthly events for the Museum of
Mathematics in New York, I teach online classes for Streamable Learning.com
and I have presented at the South African, Namibian, Botswana, Ireland and
Berlin National Science weeks. I recently ran events for the Irish Maths and
Science Week, the UK national Science Week as well as STEM Science Camps in
the USA and UK. In short, you can be assured that the lessons are
professionally presented, and the content is of an international standard.
In other words, your child's tuition is in good hands.
